HADAF Center For Human Rights organized a workshop under the title " Freedom Of Expression In Literature Work ", in the presence of Dr. Yusef Safi ( Executive Director ), and Dr. Atef Abu Saif ( Prominent Writer and University Lecturer ), and ( 40 ) female and male university students, within its project " Promoting Youth's Rights And Civic Engagement " funded by ( EU & NHRF ).
The workshop was opened by a presentation from Dr. Yusef Safi who welcomed guests and participants, indicating that freedom of expression is a cornerstone for unity, state, progress and development. He added that it is important to promote youth's civic engagement, stressing that targeting youth category has come out of deep thinking and planning and needs assessment. He also spoke about the capacity building of the human rights cadre who made great efforts in promoting and protecting youth's rights.
On the other hand, Dr. Atef Abu Saif spoke about the current state of literature work and about writers and literates in different stages and the space of freedom of speech they enjoy in additions restrictions and obstacles facing freedom of expression.
He also added that writing is a hobby and the freedom of expression is part of this hobby as human being writes and expresses his opinion.
He also stressed that freedom of expression in literature is linked with the extent of nature of literature, and its role in addressing community problems. He finally indicated that freedom is a responsibility, and that a writer is free as long as he is responsible and committed with literature work through his mission to develop society at all levels, as writers freedom comes out from his responsibility towards his literature. Moreover, he stressed that a writer is the result of a certain culture and a certain state, so he can not separate his work for this state, and that writer's need does end on the level of writing and composing but extends to his need for others to read and listen to him which makes him confronts restrictions that diminish offering him his freedom. |
