HADAF Center For Human Rights organized an Expression Day under the title " Promoting Tolerance Culture In The Occupied Palestinian Territories " at Al- Commodore Hotel in Gaza, within activities of its project " Promoting Youth's Rights And Civic Engagement " , funded by ( EU & NHRF ), targeting ( 1000 ) female and male youth: ( 800 ) university students and ( 200 ) volunteers in NGO's.
The Expression Day was organized in the presence of Mr. Ahmed Saken ( HADAF's Board Chair ), Dr. Yusef Safi ( HADAF's Executive Manager ), Dr. Suleiman Oda ( Lecturer at Al- Azhar University ), Mr. Talal Okal ( Prominent Journalist ), Dr. Tarek Muhkaimer ( Responsible of Human Rights in the office of Human Rights Commissioner – Gaza Office ), a large number of representative of NGO's, more than ( 200 ) female and male youth from university students and volunteers, and a large number of media institutions .
The Expression Day was opened by a presentation from Mr. Ahmed Saken through which he indicated HADAF's its programs, and activities thanking ( EU ) for their generous support to the project, and thanking the project team for their efforts towards achieving objectives, and thanking guests and participants for participations.
Importantly, Dr. Yusef Safi highlighted the current project, its target groups, objectives, and activities, expressing his deep gratitude for ( EU ) for the generous support of the project, stressing the importance of promoting and protecting youth's rights and their basic freedoms through integrating them in programs for democratic reform and social development.
On the other hand, Dr. Suleiman Oda expressed his deep anxiety due to the current alarming state of violence spreading in the Palestinian community of all levels. Stressing that Islamic Religion gives importance to culture and practices of tolerance, calling youth to avoid being engaged in circles of violence and hatred, and calling NGO's to integrate youth in their initiatives and activities.
In the same context, Mr. Talal Okal expressed his deep anxiety due to dissemination of violence culture in the Palestinian Community at all levels, and specifically among youth category, directing blame on alocal media in enhancing violence culture, calling media to work professionally .
Additionally, Dr. Tarek Mukhaimer expressed his fears due to the alarming state of intolerance in the Palestinian Society , and specifically among youth category, stressing that the right to live in a tolerance environment free of violence is a major component of International Human Rights Law which should respected and protected.
Finally, discussion opened, many questions asked, and some important conclusions and recommendations reached to enhance tolerance culture in the Palestinian Society, which HADAF will build on when planning future programs and activities. |
