HADAF Center For Human Rights organized an expression day at Al-Commodore Hotel on the right to freedom of expression, within activities of its project " Promoting Youth's Rights & Civic Engagement " funded by ( EU & NHRF ), targeting youth category in the Palestinian Universities and volunteers in NGO's.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Ayman Ftaiha, representing ( EU ), Mr. Ahmed Saken ( HADAF's Board Director ), Dr. Yusef Safi
( HADAF's Executive Manager ), Mr. Saleh Zaidan ( Member of the PLC ), Mr. Tayseer Muhaisen ( Member of PNGO Board ), Donia Al-Amal Ismail ( Director of Creative Woman Society ) , and Naim Al-Ghalban ( Board Director of Al-Wedad Association ), in addition to a number of key community figures and representatives of NGO's, and more than ( 220 ) female and male youth .
The meeting was opened by Ahmed Saken ( HADAF's Board Director ) who introduced briefly HADAF, its goals, programs and activities, thanked ( EU ) for supporting our project, and thanked guests and audience and project team for their efforts.
Mr. Ayman Ftaiha ( EU Representation ) thanked HADAF for the efforts made to support and advocate youth's rights, stressing the big interest and role of EU for supporting issues of human rights and democracy through the European mechanism for democracy and human rights which is a financing mechanism for supporting human rights of the international level.
Dr. Yusef Safi ( Executive Director of HADAF ) highlighted the project, its target group, goals, and activities, appreciating the generous support of ( EU ) to the project stressing the importance of respecting youth's rights and their basic freedoms through integrating them in programs for democratic community reform and community development.
Mr. Saleh Zaidan ( Member of PLC ), and through his presentation under the title ( Freedom of Expression in Political Parties ), indicated that a political party which does not adopt or achieve in its internal life the principle of participation can not practice democracy or deal with its values and requirements properly in the social and political life and authority management.
He added that these is a different among political parties regarding extent of committeemen to democracy mechanism which enable enhancing freedom of expression: e.g. delay in conducting conferences , negligence of continuous election, sever centralism, and denial of the other, stressing the necessity of activating the role of the PLC for the sake of forcing the Palestinian Authority to be committed to law and to prevent a hacks on citizens and their rights.
Mr. Tayseer Muhaisen ( Member of PNGO ), and through his paper under the title " Freedom Of Expression In Civil Society Institutions " stressed that most Palestinian NGO's are not able to constitute the best channels for freedom of expression and for exchange of thought and education, and that their abilities to continue their roles in defending freedoms and rights are deteriorating continuously .
Mr. Naim A;-Ghalban ( Al-Wedad Board of Director ) , through his paper under the title " Freedom of Expression within the family, stressed absence of dialogue culture among parents and their sons and daughters, which means violating the right to freedom of expression, and indicated the importance of promoting dialogue culture and means, and being away from values of fatherhood society.
Finally, Donia Al-Amal Ismail ( Director of Creative Woman Association ), and through her paper under the title " Freedom of Expression among Palestinian Woman ", highlighted the suffering of the Palestinian Woman, specifically journalists, and community activists in the area of freedom of expression to a large extent, which has come as a result for the sovereignty of one-sided opinion, and political split which reflected negatively on woman status forcing her to be committed internal and self oversight in order to protect herself and her family. |
